Track and report volunteer metrics
Chapter 3:
Recruiting and selecting volunteers
The importance
of tracking and reporting
At every stage of volunteer recruitment, it is important to track your volunteer numbers to have a better understanding of the effectiveness of your recruitment efforts.
What metrics to track?
Priorities are different at every stage. Here are some recommendations at what metrics you should be looking at:
-
# of volunteers (total and per-programme)
-
Effectiveness of recruitment channels (recruitment rate/commitment level/quantity)
-
% of volunteer opportunities that have been filled up.
-
No. of successful conversions of applications via any single recruitment channel.
-
Staff and volunteer satisfaction on recruitment processes
How to track?
For different metrics, the processes of tracking would be different.
In general,
Quantitative: Volunteer/employee survey
Qualitative: FGD with volunteers

The frequency of when to track can also be pre-determined (for eg. once every 6 months), or after any events or programmes
