Give your volunteers free rein! Or at least some freedom and independence in initiating and organising programmes within your organisation. Volunteers sometimes gain inspiration from the groundwork that they do and some would love to go the extra mile to turn it into reality. Trust is one of the greatest recognition you could give. Try entrusting your volunteers with some resources to carry out a pilot project of their initiatives and who knows, it could be the next programme highlight!

Start off slow by giving regular volunteers that you know you can depend on the opportunity to expand their role. But be sure to check their capacity and availability before allocating more responsibilities!
